What is the DriveHome by instacar?

DriveHome is our new service specifically designed for international residents. From now on, when you come to Greece you can have a car for 1 to 3 months so you don't miss any destination. The booking process is very simple and is done entirely online.

What is the difference between DriveHome and Rent-a-Car?

We designed our new service to meet the mobility needs of Greeks living abroad, digital nomads, and all those who feel Greece as a home and wish to extend their holiday for a longer period. Therefore, we created a simple process that allows you to have your instacar for a longer time, without paying the exorbitant fees of a Rent-a-Car.

To begin with, very few Rent-a-Car companies allow for a rental period greater than 30 days and these few do not do it online. The only company right now that allows you to have a car for up to 3 months is instacar. Moreover, the process of purchasing the DriveHome service is very simple, it only involves 3 steps and is done entirely digitally.

Apart from the longer duration, DriveHome is also financially advantageous. It is a monthly package rather than a daily package, so it can offer more competitive rates. Plus, the charging fee is definite and is not dependent on seasonality, nor is it surcharged with services such as full insurance coverage, car theft insurance, or the option of additional drivers.

The price includes all the instacar benefits, namely

On the other hand, car rental companies charge the above services in addition to the price.

How can I book the DriveHome by instacar service?

Hence, DriveHome is the ideal choice for you to make the most of every minute in Greece and not miss any destination. Here's how to book your car so that it will be waiting for you for the most beautiful rides under the Greek sun.

As mentioned above, the process of renting a car through DriveHome is very simple and is done entirely online in three simple steps.

Step 1 Choose your DriveHome plan

What kind of car suits your needs? How long do you need it? The first step is to build your DriveHome plan.

10 categories to choose from

On the DriveHome page, you begin by selecting the car category you are interested in. For this reason, we have created 10 vehicle categories that cover every need. In case you're having a hard time deciding which category is for you, we've written a few words here for each one to help you figure it out.

• Eco Cars: These are electric microcars, which have the perfect dimensions to drive around the city effortlessly. Although they are two-seaters, their special "boxy" design offers enough space for two people. As an example, in this category, you'll find the Citroen Ami and the XEV YoYo.

• City Cars: This category includes small city cars that can carry up to 4 people. They are ideal for getting around town easily without the stress of parking, but they won't say no to a short trip out of town. At the same time, these are cars that have relatively low fuel consumption. Cars in this category include our beloved Fiat 500, the super fun Fiat Panda, and the absolutely practical Hyundai i10.

• Medium Cars: This category includes the so-called superminis, i.e. vehicles larger than small cars. These cars can accommodate 5 people, but not with the same comfort you'll find in larger vehicles. At the same time, they allow you to comfortably get out on the motorway to visit other places. Cars in the class include the feisty Ford Fiesta, the super stylish Renault Clio, and the sexy Peugeot 208.

• Medium Cars Auto: Everything we said above also applies to this category, the only difference being that here we have an automatic gearbox. In this category, we still have the playful Toyota Aygo X and the very popular Volkswagen Polo.

• B-SUV: B-SUVs are the so-called small jeeps, i.e. family cars with spacious compartments that are ideal for roadtrips to out-of-town destinations. They can fit 5 people in their cabin more comfortably, while their external dimensions make parking easy. In this category, we have cars like Volkswagen's dynamic T-Roc or the exciting Ford Puma.

• B-SUV Auto: The same features as in the above category, but with an automatic gearbox. In this category, you'll also find the special DS3 Crossback.

• SUV: SUVs are larger vehicles and this makes them the most popular category at the moment. These are cars with wider dimensions that won't say no to mild off-road routes, which is why they are your ideal ally to explore the most beautiful destinations in Greece. Vehicles in this category include the explosive Ford Kuga, the gorgeous Peugeot 3008, and the class-leading Nissan Qashqai.

• SUV Auto: This category is on a similar level, except that apart from the automatic transmission, you'll also find somewhat more premium cars. In this category, we've included the exciting BMW X2, the iconic Mini Countryman, and the utterly seductive Alfa Romeo Tonale.

• Electric Premium: Here we have car models that achieve a harmony between luxury and sustainability. These cars made us see electrification in a different light thanks to their refinement and high performance. And so we have the futuristic Tesla Model 3 and the fabulous Mercedes EQB.

• Premium Cars: Leaving the good bits for the end, the cars in this category are distinguished by their irresistible charm, excellent build quality, and of course superb driving performance. In this category, you'll find the unbeatable Audi Q5 and the impressive and luxurious Mercedes GLC.

Subscription duration and pick-up/delivery location

Once you've chosen the vehicle category that suits you, it's time to decide on the subscription period. Available packages cover 1, 2, or 3 months of a continuous time period.

At this step, you can choose how many "full" months you want to have your instacar and you will see the corresponding fee. If you want to have the DriveHome service for more days, those will be added later. For example, if you want to have a car for 1 month and 14 days, on this page you simply select the "1 Month" package.

On the new screen, you select the pick-up date on the calendar provided. On the calendar you only select the date of pick-up and the delivery date is automatically filled in. Here you can still select the aforementioned extension. Above the calendar, you see the option for an additional 7 or 14 days, once you click on it you will see the corresponding charge on the right table.

If you are not sure about your travel dates, you can finalize the pick-up date at a later point in time, since with the annual subscription you have "unlocked" access to our packages for the next 12 months. Just select "I don't have exact dates" and you can let us know about the date later. The important thing to remember here is that you must notify us at least 45 days before your arrival for your instacar to be ready for you.

Here, you also choose the pick-up and delivery location. At the moment, the pick-up option can be done at any area within Attica or partnering locations in Thessaloniki, but soon we will be able to extend the delivery service to the rest of Greece. Just remember, as with Rent-a-Car services, the pick-up and delivery point has to be the same.

Step 2 Sign up to the DriveHome service

On the new screen, you are now invited to sign up for the DriveHome service. You have two options: a) to sign up via email or b) to create an account on our service. In either case, we will keep your details to facilitate your subsequent transactions with instacar. 

Upon completing this, you will be asked to fill in your personal details and your address abroad. At this point, it is important to note that you will be asked for an official document proving your residence in the confirmation email we send you, and this address must match the address you provide here.

Step 3 Proceed to payment

In the last step, you are asked to make the full payment for the DriveHome service. The amount includes the annual subscription to "unlock" the service, your plan, the extra days (if any), and the instadelivery fee if you have chosen a location apart from the instacar points.

Apart from that, you don't have to pay anything extra, as instacar always provides you with 

• Full insurance coverage
• Car theft insurance
• 24/7 roadside assistance
• Vehicle replacement in case of damage or accident
• Up to 3 drivers.

Payment is made with the safety of Viva and you do not need a credit card. The amount is paid in full and no deduction is made as a "guarantee in case of accident". However, it is advisable to be sure of your booking and your details, as in case of cancellation, the amount is non-refundable.

DriveHome by instacar FAQs

• I'm a new driver, can I get a DriveHome car?

As in the case of a standard car rental, DriveHome by instacar is for people over 23 years old. Furthermore, a minimum of one year must have passed since the issue of your driving license.

• Can other people drive my DriveHome car?

As with instacar leasing, you have the right to register up to three drivers for your car. All we ask of you is that you inform us in advance and submit the documents that will be requested so that you don't have any legal problems. Additional drivers are not charged.

• Can I drive with a United States of America license?

You can drive in Greece with a driving license from a country in the European Union. In all other cases, you must have your International Driver Permit-IDP with you. You can find out more about this document at the International Drivers Association.

• Do I need a credit card to purchase the DriveHome service?

The payment of the service is made through Viva and can be completed both by debit and credit card.

• Do you need a guarantee for DriveHome?

Unlike car rental companies, at instacar, you don't have to commit any amount of guarantee for the DriveHome service. You simply pay for the service after you sign up. Remember though that the amount is non-refundable at the moment.
